Grand Junction-The number of homeless or runaway teens in the Grand Valley is up to about 300 and some city leaders want to give these kids a place to call home. Terri Klements, Executive Director of The Treehouse in Grand Junction, which offers teens a safe place to socialize, is in the process of bringing a homeless teen shelter to Mesa County.
Klements say it's a bigger problem than most people think.
Currently, there is no refuge for homeless teens since they don't qualify to stay at Catholic Outreach or Homeward Bound homeless shelters. The idea is gaining support throughout the community from both the Marilac Clinic and Colorado West Mental Health.
Klement's says she hopes the shelter will become a one–stop–shop for teens in which they can receive medical services from Marilac Clinic and counseling from Colorado West all in the same place.
