Police from around Colorado completed a special drug recognition course being held in Grand Junction, Thursday. 30 officers, who are tops in their departments in sobriety detection, participated in the class which was sponsored by the Colorado Department of Transportation and the Mesa County Sheriff's Office.
Officers who graduated Thursday have the tools to identify not only that a driver is impaired, but will be able to detect what specific substance they are on. With 2 graduating officers from both the Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement officials say it should have a positive effect on roadways throughout the Grand Valley.
Currently, 4,000 officers in the United States hold the elite drug recognition expert title, and today's ceremony marks one of the few times the course has had a 100% graduation rate.
