Woman Apparently Dies In Overnight Car Crash Along I-70

The Colorado State Patrol is trying to piece together the details of what appears to be a fatal car crash. The body of a woman was found in a car that had apparently veered off Interstate 70 near the Clifton exit and crashed into a ditch. A Palisade driver notified authorities Saturday morning after spotting the top of the car from the interstate. Authorities say the license plates on the car are registered locally, but the woman's identity is still unknown. The Colorado State Patrol believes the car veered off the road, went up a steep embankment and into a fence. Airbags in the car did deploy, and troopers say the victim was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. The wreck is believed to have happened sometime overnight. At this time the Colorado State Patrol says there's no reason to suspect drugs or alcohol, but the crash is still under investigation.
