Breckenbridge-Construction of a new ski lift at the Breckenridge Resort could begin as early as August 2nd after federal land managers rejected a challenge by a watchdog group. The $4 million dollar Peak 8 Summit Lift would be the highest–altitude lift in North America and would open up terrain now accessible only by hiking.
Two federal agencies had raised questions about environmental impacts, and the group Colorado Wild had challenged the plan.
Last week, White River National Forest Supervisor Maribeth
Gustafson said the project could go ahead. The Environmental Protection Agency says no wetlands are in the way.
Breckenridge Resort officials say they hope the lift will be ready this winter.
