Grand Junction-Construction on a new Crisis Stabilization Hospital Campus in Grand Junction is ahead of schedule and under budget according to administrators at Colorado West Mental Health. Six community partners gathered Thursday at the site to talk about the facility, which will include three separate inpatient buildings, as well as a two story administration and outpatient facility.
The inpatient facilities are scheduled to open on December 1st and the administrative and outpatient building about two months later. Medical Director Lowell Stratton says the new facility should help improve mental health care for people on the Western Slope.
Construction of the new campus has been controversial as neighbors including the Grand Mesa Little league have voiced concerns about having a mental health facility in an area with so many children.
Director Bob Oleskevich says numerous meetings with people in the area have worked out concerns. Colorado West Mental Health meets next month with the Grand Mesa Little League Board of Directors to discuss the use of the facility's parking lot for little league games at the adjacent ball park.
