GJ Police Look To Stop Illegal Street Racing

Grand Junction-According to the Grand Junction Police Department the Grand Valley has an organized, underground street racing group and the police department is trying to break it up. Sergeant Paul Quimby with the Grand Junction Police Department says this group scouts out locations mostly in the industrial areas of Grand Junction. They find straight-aways that have little to no traffic and race late at night.

The street racers position people as lookouts and sometimes use police scanners to monitor traffic in the area. They are hard to catch, so the police are asking for your help to call in any suspicious activity, such as a group of sporty cars gathering to race.

There is a legal place to drag race cars in Grand Junction. The drag strip provides a controlled area, which makes racing safer.

Anyone caught street racing will lose their license along with racking up several other traffic violations.
