Colorado Man Pulls Crash Victim Out Of Burning Vehicle
A Texas man narrowly escapes being burned to death thanks to the efforts of a Division of Wildlife employee passing by an accident on Highway 50 near the Delta–Mesa County line, Wednesday.
Gary Harris, 49, was on his way to a job site in Parachute and towing his camper trailer and a small box trailer carrying a motorcycle. The small trailer began swaying as Harris topped a hill. That put a chain reaction into motion as Harris fought the swaying trailers for nearly 900 feet before finally losing control.
Delta County and Land's End Volunteer firefighters at the scene say Colorado Springs–based Division of Wildlife Assistant Division Manager David Lovell is a hero. Lovell pulled Harris from the smoking wreckage just seconds before it burst into flames.
Harris was transported to the hospital with injuries said to be non–life–threatening. An investigation will be done before the state patrol decides whether charges will be filed.
