State Treasurer Mike Coffman started his assignment in the Middle East, Monday. Coffman took unpaid leave from his office to re–join the Marine Corps. Before leaving for Iraq he completed two months of training at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina, where he completed a combat refresher course and was briefed on political and military challenges facing the country.
Coffman will work in Al Anbar Province as a political officer as part of a Marine Corps Civil Affairs Unit helping the independent elections committee prepare for upcoming elections.
After the December elections he may work as an advisor for the newly–elected provincial government until his tour of duty ends in March of next year.
