Groundbreaking Held For New Grand Valley Ice Rink

After years of waiting Grand Junction ice skaters will soon have a place to call home as a groundbreaking is held Friday for a new ice skating facility. The 36,000 square foot facility is named The Glacier and will contain a National Hockey League regulation sheet of ice 85 feet wide and 200 feet long.

The building will also have facilities for parties, as well as skate rentals. The groundbreaking comes just weeks after the formation of a new partnership between Ice Skating Incorporated, which will manage many operations of the facility, and the Koos family, who are focusing initially on construction.

Alan Koos says the scheduled mid–winter opening could not come at a better time. Construction will start next week.

The Glacier ice rink facility will cost about $3 million dollars to build.
