Gypsum Marine Killed When Bomb Explodes In Iraq

Denver (AP) A western Colorado marine is dead as the result of injuries suffered when a homemade bomb blew up near his unit in Iraq. The Pentagon says 22–year–old Lance Corporal Evenor C. Herrera was killed Wednesday when the improvised explosive device detonated while he and fellow marines were conducting combat operations near Ar Ramadi.

The Gypsum resident was assigned to the first battalion, fifth marine regiment, first marine division, first marine expeditionary force headquartered at Camp Pendleton, California.

The Defense Department says that unit was attached to the second marine division, second marine expeditionary force as a part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
