Qwest Union Employees Threaten To Walk Off The Job

A strike may be imminent for the more than 25–thousand Qwest workers who say they're disappointed in the progress of their contract negotiations. The contract between the Denver–based phone company Qwest and the Communication Workers of America Union expires at midnight. Last week workers authorized a strike and Saturday the national union's executive board did the same. The union's president would have to set a strike date before a walkout can take place. One of the major stivking points concerns mandatory overtime. Qwest officials say the company could operate as normal if union workers go on strike.
