Eastbound I–70 Reopened After Blasting; Delays Expected Through Friday

Idaho Springs (AP) Blasting is expected to continue through the end of the week along Interstate 70 as workers clear loose rocks and debris from a series of weekend rock slides. Westbound lanes are closed while eastbound lanes reopened after blasting Tuesday morning near Idaho Springs.

Major delays are expected along the state's main east–west highway through Friday. Until then, one lane in each direction will be open to motorists, but no wide–load trucks will be allowed on I–70 between Idaho Springs and Dumont, about 40 miles west of Denver.

Traffic will be stopped periodically to accommodate the work. Drivers have been encouraged to avoid the area and take an alternate route by heading south on U.S. Highway 285 to Fairplay and then Colorado 9 toward Frisco before getting back on I–70.
