A battle between Rio Blanco County and Encana Oil over unpaid taxes will move to the state level again after the oil company appealed a ruling by county commissioners. Rio Blanco County officials say Encana owes more than $285,000 in taxes on construction materials brought into the county for oil and gas wells.
Encana says materials used in drilling wells should not be taxed as construction materials and will appeal the county's finding to the Colorado Department of Revenue.
Exxon–Mobil has a similar appeal on tap. The county says they owe more than $1.5 million dollars in unpaid taxes.
