Two Delta County residents died in a car accident Thursday and an infant was clinging to life Thursday night. The accident happened at noon just outside the town of Austin in Delta County. The Colorado State Patrol reports a car heading north on 2200 Road went directly into the path of a pickup carrying a horse trailer on Highway 92.
The crash killed the driver, a 24-year-old mother, and her 15- year-old sister-in-law. The only survivor from that vehicle was the mothers 17–month-old child who was first airlifted from Delta to St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Juntion, then to a Denver hospital.
Sgt. Lawrence Oletski Told 11 News the baby was in very critical condition, Thursday night.
The driver of the pickup was treated and released from the hospital in Delta. An investigation is underway to determine what caused the crash.
