The Colorado Division of Wildlife has issued a citation to the construction worker who allegedly abused a prairie dog in Fruita, Wednesday. Chad Reiner, who was working for Mays Concrete Wednesday was cited Thursday for cruelty to animals, which is a class one misdemeanor, illegal possession of wildlife and harassing wildlife.
Witnesses say Reiner trapped the prairie dog at the Kokopelli Professional Plaza's construction site in Fruita, tied a rope around its neck and then spray painted it bright orange.
Division of Wildlife Spokesperson Randy Hampton says under Colorado state law it is illegal to prevent wildlife from being free.
