Pitkin County Man Accused Of Trying To Set Three People Ablaze

Aspen (AP) A Pitkin County man is being held on $125,000 bond for allegedly dousing three people with paint thinner, and trying to light them on fire. Authorities arrested 36–year–old Carlos A. Ronay on suspicion of attempted first–degree murder and second–degree assault.

One of the three victims told police that Ronay rushed out of the darkness, splashed them with the liquid, and tried to ignite a cigarette lighter during a violent struggle August 5th. The attack occurred near the B.R.B. campground between Carbondale and Redstone.

An arrest warrant indicates a bloody shirt and a large jug of paint thinner with blood and hair on it were found in Ronay's home, and a lighter was found at the scene.

Ronay is being held in the Garfield County Jail. That's because a woman Ronay allegedly assaulted is jailed as part of a separate case in Pitkin County. The warrant says that assault might've prompted the paint thinner attack.
