Owens Nominates Former Sen. Gigi Dennis As Secretary Of State

Denver (AP) Former State Senator Ginette "Gigi" Dennis is
getting Governor Owens' nod to serve out the rest of Donetta Davidson's term as Secretary of State. Dennis is a Republican who's served as Colorado Rural Development Director for five years.

She's originally from Pueblo, but now lives in Littleton.
President Bush had appointed Dennis to the rural development position. She would succeed Davidson, whom Bush appointed to the United States Election Assistance Commission.

Davidson won U.S. Senate confirmation July 28th. The panel sets guidelines and standards for states trying to implement the federal Help America Vote Act. Dennis will be sworn in September 26th, but faces a confirmation hearing in the state senate when the legislature convenes in January.
