In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, gas prices in Grand Junction set new records, Tuesday. A gallon of regular unleaded gas was going for $289.9 at several Grand Valley outlets. Premium unleaded gas now costs more than $3.00 at many stations.
Producers say that damage done by Hurricane Katrina in the gulf region, which produces about one–third of the oil in the country, will affect the output of oil by refineries for the immediate future.
The Bush Administration is also considering tapping into the nation's emergency oil reserves to help companies who need it.
