P.U.C. Opens Hearings On Implementation Of Renewable Energy Plan

Denver (AP) The first day of hearings is under way in Denver on how Colorado's voter–approved Renewable Energy Program will be carried out. The Public Utilities Commission will set the rules to implement Amendment 37, requiring the state's largest utilities to get 10% of their power from renewable energy sources by 2015.

XCEL Energy is Colorado's largest electricity provider. Officials from the Minneapolis–based company say they're
concerned about a requirement that a minimum of 4% of the
electricity come from solar energy. XCEL Monday questioned how much that will cost, and said there's confusion about how much of the cost can be passed on to consumers.

The P.U.C. is also taking public comment at the hearings, which continue through Thursday.
