Telephone lines have been jammed with calls from people who want information about their loved ones that are in the state's afdfected by Hurricane Kartina this week. The American Red Cross may be able to help. The American Red Cross has set up a disaster assistance line for people who have been unable to contact family members who have medical conditions or illnesses.
Those numbers are 242–4851 or toll–free at 1–888–545–7800. Please note that these numbers are for getting information on people who have a medical condition or other illness.
The Red Cross does not have information on the well–being of any individuals. Medical or governmental officials will contact families in serious cases, if necessary.
