Palisade (AP) Firefighters are battling to keep a wildfire burning at the base of Grand Mesa from spreading in dry,
windy conditions. The blaze about two miles south of Palisade is 300 acres. Authorities previously reported it was 700 acres but changed the figure after getting a better look at it.
No evacuations have been ordered but the blaze is threatening the watersheds of both Palisade and Grand Junction. A few homes are nearby but aren't in imminent danger.
The fire started late last night and moved to Bureau of Land Management land. At least 30 firefighters are battling the blaze, which is burning in brush and trees.
Two single–engine air tankers and one heavy air tanker are dropping slurry on the flames.
