Wildfire Burns Near 9 Homes In Palisade, Containment Expected Friday

A wildfire that's been burning since Tuesday night on the west end of the Grand Mesa is now 75 percent contained. Mel Lloyd from the Bureau of Land Management says the Blowout Fire is 426 acres and not expected to grow.

Lloyd says a hot shot crew from Globe, Arizona, joined in the effort Thursday near Horse Mountain. At least 100 firefighters, including 6 engine crews, remain at the scene and are still working on some hot spots.

Officials say if the weather cooperates they hope to have the fire fully contained by 8:00 p.m. Friday.

9 residences and a watershed are still threatened. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
