The Grand Junction City Council Wednesday approved local architects Blythe Design to design a new parking garage for downtown Grand Junction. It is to be built on Rood Avenue between 4th and 5th Streets. The company has created an innovative design for a parking structure that resembles the building style of historic downtown Grand Junction.
The four–story structure will contain three levels of parking book ended by new stores. One of the parking levels will be used by Alpine Bank, while a second level is reserved for long–term paid parking. That leaves more than 100 spaces for use by the general public.
The design contract approved is for just under $400,000. Construction costs for the new garage is $4.3 million dollars and will be shared by the city, the Downtown Development Authority and Alpine Bank.
Construction is scheduled to start next spring with a completion date of December, 2006.
