A man from Mesa, Colorado was killed while riding his All Terrain Vehicle along a rural highway in Mesa County. The two vehicle accident happened early this morning on Highway 330 just off the Grand Mesa Scenic Byway. According to the Colorado State Patrol 61-year-old Donald Dale Smith of Mesa was struck and killed while riding his ATV. Authorities say the ATV was rearended by a Chevy pick-up truck driven by a 16-year-old boy from Parachute. The truck was traveling east on Highway 330 when it ran in to the back end of Smith. Authorities believe he was killed instantly. The crash is still under investigation however witnesses say sun glare may have contributed to the crash. Drugs, alcohol, or excessive speed are not believed to be factors. The teenager was issued a citation for careless driving causing death.
