Americorps Volunteers Hold Local Ceremony Commemorating 9/11

The Mesa State College Americorps Project hosts a small tribute to honor fire and police personnel and to remember the sacrifices made on September 11th. Dozens of flags placed on the Grand Junction Fire Department's lawn fluttered as the Grand Mesa Chorus sang patriotic songs during the 30 minute ceremony. While the event commemorates the worst terrorist attack in our country's history it was also a way to say thank you to local emergency responders for the work they do. Plaques were given to police and fire personnel to show appreciation and Fire Chief Rick Beaty says remembering 9–11 particularly as a fireman is a humbling experience. Time was also taken to acknowledge emergency workers who are currently in the south assisting in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
