F.E.M.A. Director Mike Brown Says He's Quitting Disaster Agency

Washington (AP) Mike Brown says he's resigned as Director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The former Colorado man has come under fire over the federal government's response in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. President Bush called him back to Washington last week, and replaced him with Coast Guard Vice-admiral Thad Allen as the head of on–site federal relief and recovery efforts.

Critics, including members of Colorado's own congressional
delegation, had said Brown was "in over his head" and should resign or be fired.

One lawmaker said Brown should never have been hired in the
first place, calling his experience with the Aurora–based International Arabian Horse Association inadequate.
