Grand Valley Medical Reserve Corps Volunteers Head To Louisiana

A number of Grand Valley residents with special skills are using them to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. The Western Slope office of the Medical Reserve Corps was certified only last week and was asked to mobilize by the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

The corps is part of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and sends people trained in first aid, search and rescue and medical administration to areas of need. One volunteer is leaving Tuesday morning for Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Although many of the people working in the Medical Reserve Corps are retirees there is no age limit.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Reserve Medical Corps telephone the Retired Senior Volunteer offices in Grand Junction at 243–9839.
