Salt Lake City (AP) Deer Valley was voted the best North
American resort by more than 20,000 subscribers of Ski
Magazine. The Park City resort is known for pampering guests with ski porters, gourmet food and immaculately groomed slopes. All that service paid off as Ski Magazine called Deer Valley unmatched for amenities in the industry.
Deer Valley leapfrogged Vail, Colorado, for the nunber 1 spot in a ranking of the top 50 resorts. Readers judged the resorts on 17 categories, with snow and terrain just two considerations. Deer Valley ran strong for lodging, dining, service, lifts, after–ski entertainment and other amenities.
Deer Valley's neighbor, Park City Mountain Resort, finished number5. Another Park City resort, The Canyons, climbed two spots to 14.
The four Cottonwood Canyons resorts in Salt Lake County traditionally do not fare well in ski magazine's rankings because of limited nightlife and dining opportunities around Solitude, Brighton, Snowbird and Alta. They often do better in rankings by Ski's sister magazine, Skiing, whose target audience is more aggressive skiers and snowboarders.
