Sen. Salazar pushes for Methamphetamine Task Force inside DEA
Craig, colo. (ap) _ Freshman democratic Senator Ken Salazar says drug problems in some of northwest Colorado's rural communities are among the reasons he's pushing for the creation of a methamphetamine task force within the drug enforcement
administration.
Salazar's proposal is an amendment to a larger appropriations bill, scheduled for a vote on the senate floor this week. The measure would require the d-e-a to establish a meth task force, with a goal of reducing and targeting the production and trafficking of meth. The Colorado state patrol says troopers are seeing more of the drug seized on highways, as meth is moved from rural areas into larger cities. Salazar says methamphetamine has been a ``leech'' on rural Colorado communities for too long, ``bleeding dry promising lives.''
