Durango Nursing Home will Stop Taking Medicaid Patients

Durango, Colo. (ap) _ Thirteen patients at a Durango facility ay soon have to move -- or be moved -- when the assisted-living center stops accepting patients on medicaL case managers at the san juan basin health department say
they've been scrambling to find new housing for some people living at the sunshine gardens west assisted-living residence.A letter from sunshine gardens scheduled to go out to families
of medicaid patients blames the planned evictions on additional
requirements the state ``imposes on assisted living when providing medicaid rooms.'' but a Durango city planner says signed agreements require sunshine gardens to provide ten beds for medicaid patients.A Denver-based medicaid representative reportedly told sunshine gardens its staffing level is inadequate.
