Grand Junction Police Investigate Hurricane Victim Fraud

The Grand Junction Police Department and the American Red Cross are investigating a possible case of fraud involving a supposed victim of Hurricane Katrina. Yesterday a man came to the American Red Cross office in Grand Junction saying he was a victim of Hurricane Katrina. Volunteers at the office did a routine check and noticed a number of red flags indicating the man's information may not have been truthful. Western Slope Red Cross Director Jean Hermanson says she wants everyone to know their donations are safe. Hermanson says this is the first time a client at the Western Slope office has ever tried to obtain services in a fraudulent manner. The Grand Junction Police Department is continuing their investigation into the matter.
