Busy I-70 Interchange To Get Major Makeover

A $5.7 Million project to reconstruct the I–70 interchange at 24 Road in Grand Junction starts Monday. The Colorado Department of Transportation and Hamon Contractors Incorporated will work to replace the 24 Road bridge over Interstate 70, construct two roundabouts and widen 24 road. Two 2–lane roundabouts will be constructed on the north and south sides of the interstate to improve traffic flow. The interstate overpass will be replaced with a new bridge that will have two southbound lanes and a two–way pedestrian path. The interstate ramps will also be widened to two lanes with the exception of the westbound on–ramp to I–70. The interchange improvements are designed to enhance mobility and increase safety around the area. I–70, 24 Road and all ramps will remain open for the most part throughout the project which is slated to be complete in late July of 2006.
