Construction On 29 Road Bridge Resumes, July 2006 Completion Expected

Work on the 29 Road bridge in Grand Junction is about to begin after a summer–long halt to allow endangered fish to complete breeding. The temporary halt in construction was incorporated into the planning process. Although bridgework was halted work continued on the Orchard Mesa approach.

That's where curbs, gutters and sidewalks are being installed.

Coffer dams will be re–installed on the Colorado River the first week of October, with work on the bridge superstructure beginning October 10th. Project manager Louie Dorlac says the summer–long halt did not slow down the project.

Bridge construction will continue through the winter. The $10 million project should be complete by the end of next July, about 3.5 months ahead of schedule.
