Engergy Companies Apply for Oil Shale Research Leases

Some of the biggest names in the energy business have applied for federal oil shale research leases in Colorado Utah and Wyoming. Shell, Chevron and Exxon–Mobile are among the players applying for 160–acre research leases in Western Colorado Utah and Wyoming. The tracts on federal lands could be converted to 51–hundred acre production leases if the companies prove they can produce oil from shale. Team members from the Bureau of Land Management will begin going through the applications in October.
Recommendations will be made based on applicants ability to advance oil shale technology and economic and environmental effects. Other companies applying for research leases in Colorado are EGL Resources Incorporated. Independent energy partners Kennecott Exploration Company Natural Soda and Phoenix Wyoming.
