Grand Valley Raises Close To $400,000 In Hurricane Relief

Organizations from around the Grand Valley met Tuesday to give an update on how much money has been raised for Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. A meeting room at Alpine Bank in Grand Junction was packed with representatives from many local groups who have put forth an effort to get people to help.

The American Red Cross Western Slope Chapter has received more than $330,000 in donations. People have also offered their time. Hundreds of people have called the Red Cross to volunteer.
Canyon View Vineyard Church has raised $30,000 from parishioners in two weeks.

The highlight of Tuesday's meeting was the presentation of a check for $393,000 given to the American Red Cross. Alpine Bank donated $50,000, but the bulk of the money came from generous customers around the Western Slope.

The Western Slope Chapter of the American Red Cross has helped more than 200 people in 81 families settle into homes on the Western Slope.
