Colorado Department of Transportation engineers met with local officials and the media Thursday to give details on the reworking of the 24 Road interchange with Interstate 70. Traffic studies predict a big increase in traffic at the busy intersection as the 24 Road corridor is developed over the next few years.
In order to handle the increased traffic C-DOT will build three–lane, 180–foot diameter roundabouts north and south of the intersection. Work is already starting on new irrigation pipes. Other work scheduled for this year include construction of the north roundabout and embankments.
Work will continue as weather permits before a winter break. Work will be scheduled so as to impact traffic as little as possible.
C–DOT officials say the public is invited to visit the project office if they have questions. That office will be located at the corner of 24 Road and G Road in Grand Junction.
