Pursuit Ends With Attempted Murder Suspect In Custody

Following a high speed pursuit and foot search on Saturday night Mesa County sheriff's officials arrest a man in connection with an attempted murder. The arrest came as a result of a follow–up investigation into the shooting of James Finnigan which happened last Wednesday near 25 Road in the desert. The pursuit which lasted for only a few minutes began and ended on Orchard Mesa when Mesa County sheriff's deputies contacted 22–year–old Cory Winkel after he left a residence that was under surveillance. According to authorities Winkel fled during the traffic stop then dumped his 1995 green Subaru Legacy near 28 Road and Monroe Court. He was apprehended about an hour later. Winkel was arrested on three outstanding warrants and is facing charges of accessory to attempted murder after the fact and vehicular eluding. The green Subaru was released and the sheriff's office has confirmed the vehicle was not used in Wednesday's shooting. Officials say the car was pulled over because one of the main suspects is believed to have recently been in the vehicle. The suspects in the shooting
Charles Pruitt and Sam Lincoln remain at–large. Authorities are asking anyone with information on the whereabouts of either suspect to call 911 immediately.
