The new interim Grand Junction Police Chief was named Monday as The Mesa County Sheriff's Office will temporarily give up one of their own to help the police department in their time of transition. Undersheriff Bill Gardner will be the interim Grand Junction Police Chief while a new police chief is selected.
It may take six to eight months to find the permanent police chief and Gardner will leave his position as Undersheriff during that time. Gardner says the honor came as a complete surprise, but he is honored to be given the responsibility of the position.
Gardner will start serving his role as interim on December 1st.
