The cold temperatures are causing problems for the homeless shelter in Grand Junction. It is already at its maximum capacity and the worst part of winter is not even here yet. In addition to being overcrowded the shelter has bigger problems.
This year it has not received funding from the City of Grand Junction or Mesa County which took about $45,000 away from the shelter and donations from the community have significantly dropped.
Currently Homeward Bound can house 87 people, but as the temperatures get colder, more people will need help. Last year, close to 1,000 people used the shelter Its number one need is money. To make donations you can contact the homeless shelter at (970) 256-9424.
