Governmental land management agencies gather at the popular Bangs Canyon recreation site south of Grand Junction today to show their appreciation for a local off–road club. The Western Slope A–T–V Club was founded 17 years ago. From the club's beginning it became apparent to its founders that a proactive approach to responsible off–road vehicle use was needed. The club also began working with the B.L.M.,U.S. Forest Service and Colorado State Parks on programs to create trails and teach users to tread lightly.
Today the agencies show their appreciation for the effort the club has made by dedicating a plaque to the club at the bang's canyon trailhead. The club also builds bridges across sensitive terrain to limit erosion and stream degradation. The sign dedicated today replaces one that disappeared from the area years ago.
