Investigators from the Grand Junction Fire Department and insurance companies are expected to release the results of an investigation Friday into a fire that destroyed a historic building on the campus of Saint Joseph's Catholic Church Monday morning.
Heavy construction equipment was able to remove sufficient debris from the remains of the $1.5 million fire to allow investigators access to the basement where the fire is thought to have begun.
The fire was discovered at 4:30 a.m. by a passerby. It took hours for firefighters from Grand Junction and Clifton to control the fire, which destroyed the gymnasium of the church. The building was mostly unused at the time of the fire and there were no injuries.
