Grand Valley Teacher Faces Drug Charge, Meth Possession Suspected

Fruita (AP) A first–grade teacher in Mesa County faces a drug charge. An affidavit says 40–year–old Lincoln Orchard Mesa Elementary School teacher Tammie Reed was arrested Monday at her home in Fruita.

Sheriff's deputies say they found a white powder believed to be methamphetamine in a lipstick container in her purse and suspected marijuana in her bedroom.

Reed told deputies her boyfriend gave her the lipstick container and she didn't know it had meth inside. A school district spokesman says Reed is not teaching now.

She is free on $7,600 bond.
