More Riders Than Ever For Grand Valley Transit, High Gas Prices Cited

Grand Valley Transit sets a ridership record for the month of September with more than 60,000 passengers climbing aboard. This is a nearly 20% increase over the same month last year and Grand Valley Transit officials say higher gas prices may have helped boost the numbers.

The sale of G.V.T. passes is also up this September from last year by about 70%. The sale of one day passes also increased by 51% and the purchase of semester passes by students in Mesa County School District 51 is up about 60%.

Officials say that in the future Grand Valley Transit may look to alternative fuels as a source to power their buses.
