400–500 Gallons Of Acid Spill In Mesa County

Clifton (AP) Authorities in Mesa County are working to clean up an acid spill early this morning in Clifton. Assistant Fire Chief Greg Martin says two containers carrying hundreds of gallons of acid belonging to the Halliburton Company fell off a truck on Colorado 141 about a mile–and–a–half south of Interstate 70.

Martin says between 400 and 500 gallons spilled when the
containers broke, with much flowing into a storm drain that
eventually drains into the Colorado River. By about 7:00 a.m, the road had reopened. Martin says authorities now are trying to contain the acid before it flows into the river.

Martin says Halliburton uses the acid for drilling processes.

The Colorado State Patrol, Colorado Department of Transportation and Grand Junction Fire Department also are on site.
