Georgetown (AP) The Colorado ski season got under way Friday after one of their resorts opened to skiers and snowboarders. loveland ski area cranked up one of its lifts Friday, becoming the first in the nation to open for continuous operation. Loveland Spokeswoman Kathryn Johnson says so far about 500 skiers and snow boarders have turned out.
Three connected runs gave them a 1,000 foot vertical drop from the resort's highest spot to the base. Arapahoe Basin likely will be the next Colorado area to open, tentatively set for October 21st.
Nathan Rafferty, President of Ski Utah, says anytime a ski
resort opens in the West, it's beneficial to the entire industry in the region. Utah's ski season typically begins in November.
