Metro State Surpasses C.S.U. In Undergraduate Enrollment

Denver (AP) Move over Colorado State University. Metropolitan State College of Denver enrolled a record number of students this fall, passing C.S.U. to become Colorado's second–largest undergraduate institution. More than 21,000 students are taking classes at Metro, compared with about 20,700 at C.S.U. in Fort Collins.

The University of Colorado's Boulder campus remains Colorado's largest higher education institution, with 24,600 undergraduates, despite a drop of 295 students this year.

Metro State Spokeswoman Cathy Lucas says the college's growing popularity is due to an enhanced reputation, smaller class sizes, affordability and new student housing. More students also are enrolling at the Denver school directly from high school.
