Ignacio (AP) A state gaming official says the Southern Ute Tribe may build two new casinos in southwestern Colorado, but tribal officials are playing down that possibility. Don Burmania, spokesman for the State Division of Gaming, says the tribe informed gaming officials of its plans at a meeting earlier this month.
Matt Olin, general manager of the existing Sky Ute Casino, says it would premature to say that adding more casinos is even in the contemplation stage right now.
The tribe is a sovereign nation and is not bound by state
gambling laws on its reservation, however it complies with rules established in a compact with the state.
