Denver (AP) Senator Wayne Allard is weighing in on the debate over Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' views on abortion. Miers pledged her opposition to abortion in a questionnaire she filled out as a Dallas City Council candidate 16 years ago.
Allard met with Miers Tuesday and says he doesn't think her views on abortion have changed since then, however, he doesn't think that would affect her objectivity. The Republican says she understands that a judge's role is to, "review the facts independently and apply the law to them."
Allard hasn't decided whether to back Miers yet. He announced his support for Chief Justice John Roberts shortly after Bush nominated him in August.
