Group Helping Disabled Encourages Support For Referenda C & D

Mesa Developmental Services is urging community members to support Referenda C and D on behalf of the children. Dozens of workers for MDS and several families with special needs children gathered at Lincoln Park in Grand Junction Saturday morning to show support for the ballot issues. The group is concerned that if voters don't pass the referenda the organization will experience even more budget cuts and could possibly place all MDS clients in jeopardy especially the children who receive services. According to a recently published report Colorado is ranked 48th in the nation in fiscal effort for people with developmental disabilities currently there are at least 87–hundred Coloradoans with disabilities on a waiting list for service. In 1999 there were less than two thousand.
