Monday, a group of kids at New Emerson School in Grand Junction were taught what to do in an emergency. The American Red Cross, American medical response and the Mesa State Medical Sciences Club collaborated to give elementary school students vital information on their safety.
They talked to them about first aid procedures for breathing problems, bleeding, burns and other emergency situations. This is a pilot program and the 3rd and 4th grade students were given six one hour sessions in basic aid training.
So far, New Emerson is the only elementary school that is involved with this program, but the hope is that other elementary schools will also start the basic aid training in their classrooms.
